Words are Not an “Exact Science” … Numbers Are!

It seems like the mills are trying to outdo each other these days with the latest buzzwords.

Products are given proprietary names meant to qualify their quality, but seem completely arbitrary – “Super Max,” “Ultra Max,” “Super Duper Ultra Max!”

Confused yet? What exactly distinguishes these different “Maxes?” Anything? Are they superior quality… or just “run of the mill?”

These pet branding names may help a mill market their products, but it doesn’t really address their actual quality, certainly not in comparison to the quality of the straightened and precision-ground bar stock supplied by Certified Grinding & Machine!

Some mills define their product as “Swiss quality.”

Well, how we define “Swiss quality” at Certified Grinding & Machine is different than how the mills define it. Does it mean “Swiss quality” if it arrives at your company bent into a rainbow?

At Certified Grinding & Machine, to our suppliers’ “surprise,” we straighten almost every bar of material that we buy we sell it to our customers.

“Certified” straight and “mill” straight are worlds apart. We straighten our bars to .006”/’ TIR (and we can send you a certificate of compliance guaranteeing that!)

Here’s a second example. This week, I visited a web site that promoted “pump quality” and “boat quality.” What if you’re not making boats or pumps? And if you are, what is “boat quality?”

Some of our competitors utilize vague terms they want to gear towards particular industries like “medical grade”, or “aerospace grade,” or “DoD grade.”

What do these terms mean?

Is there a standard tolerance for any of these “grades”? Are they really any better than standard materials? If you ask five different people to define what “aerospace grade steel” refers to – you may very well get five different answers!

What purpose does a naming convention like this serve a product?

Quality ground products that speak for themselves. No clever or vague “branding” necessary.

What really matters in this industry of precision ground bars?

Numbers.

Numbers can be measured, “words” cannot.

At Certified Grinding & Machine, we don’t use fancy jargon, buzzwords or catch phrases. Our customers don’t like it, and we recognize that. This is a “No B.S.” industry, and we prefer it that way.

If you want a 303 stainless steel bar that is ground to .0002” tolerance with a 10Ra finish, then we will grind that bar for you and we will package it in such a manner to ensure that it is still straight, precise, and shiny when it arrives at your dock.

Not only that, if you want to give us a blanket order we will grind and stock the material for you so it is always ready to ship when you need it. Nothing fancy, just good quality and good service at a fair price.

We believe – and deal – in numbers. So, what are your numbers?

Our ‘Request for Quote’ form reflects this approach. We don’t ask for your life story – just the standard name/phone information, the needed material grade and how you measure it, the desired quantity and if you want bars or parts. The product knowledge, fast turnaround times, and optimal customer service we afford come with you giving us the numbers and the specs of the job you need accomplished.

If you are unsure of the grade or specifications for a particular project. Then call us. We will work with you to determine the optimal grade and specifications for your project. Nothing more, nothing less. We are not going to sell you something you don’t need. We promise to treat you honestly and fairly.

So, let’s talk numbers! If you have a project that requires ground, straightened or chamfered bars, or precision-machined part, contact us, or use the quick and easy Quote form I mentioned earlier.

At Certified Grinding, we’ll leave the creative branding to the fast food and deodorant companies. If you need quality products ground to your specifications, we’re here to deliver!

When timelines are tight, we have your back with pre-ground, pre-straightened and quick-to-grind premium materials.
