The Greater Impact of UgiTech's Factory Accident

On January 3rd, 2022 there was a serious accident at a Ugitech steel plant in Savoy, France.

A crane bridge carrying molten stainless steel collapsed, killing an employee. There was extensive damage to the facility, now out of operation with no firm re-opening date. Read Ugitech’s issued statement regarding the incident for more information.

Swiss Steel, Ugitech’s parent company, is currently searching for alternative sources of melt to draw stainless steel coils to make stainless steel bars until the Ugitech mill resumes operation.

Swiss Steel is one of Certified Grinding and Machine’s biggest suppliers.

We place orders months in advance with Swiss Steel to try to ensure we have a continued supply of material for our customers. Swiss Steel has reviewed our placed orders and confirmed that most of our orders due in the first half of the year will be shipped to us.

We will be working with Swiss Steel and other stainless steel mills to try to ensure a continued supply of material throughout the year.

What does this mean to you as a customer?

As witnessed during the pandemic, there will be a limited amount of stainless steel available. Swiss Steel’s first priority will be to fulfill all current open orders. They also have some unallocated stock –  the details of which are unknown to us.

Our recommendation is that you check with your customers to determine future requirements, then send us RFQ’s to source your materials as quickly as possible.

Blanket orders can be placed once the items are sourced. Please understand that we won’t be able to confirm the orders until we receive confirmation from our suppliers. We will continue to work with our nationwide supplier network to locate any items that Swiss Steel will be unable to provide for us. Certified Grinding has notified all customers who have placed orders impacted by the shutdown; We will keep them apprised of any future developments.

Please contact us if you have any questions or would like more details.

When timelines are tight, we have your back with pre-ground, pre-straightened and quick-to-grind premium materials.
